the pain train's a comin'.

In keeping with the pain train theme...C'mon, a Railroad plate!? E could be watching Thomas while eating Thomas pasta with traincar in hand. I feel like with the right handyman/woman know how, this could be reproduced fairly easily with some non toxic wood glue, some screws, a wooden cutting board and some tracks...or you could just buy this lovely utilitarian railroad plate.

Thrift Bandit
Follow my blog with Bloglovin
Sometimes it can be a little rough out there on the thrifting front...but not yesterday! My gal Cindy and I made off like some thrifty bandits and it feels good. I have already washed all china, and laundered all linens (I figure washing thrift store sheets on hot/cold with tons of white vinegar, detergent and oxyclean will get whatever biologically offensive molecules out). The chicks are perched in my kitchen window and the bamboo sheets are already parked on Elliott's bed. Ooh, I also scored on a couple of vintage dresses but they need to be taken in a bit here and there, and for $3 a pop I will gladly put alterations on my to do list.

'one piece dress in girls' and chubbies' sizes:'
Out of the lot of little girls' dress patterns that my grandma gave to me and made for my mom and aunt back in the mid-century, only a handful are an option when it comes to the fit. The sizing is a little strange by today's standards but I couldn't help but think of Ricky Lake in Hairspray, with this 'Chubbies' sizes'. You just don't see that anymore. With that aside, I love the sleeveless striped and scalloped neckline little number in the middle. I think I could pull it off. Thanks again grammy.

Pool Morning
The early morning is really the only tolerable time to get outside with little ones this time of the summer here in Houston ( 9:30 am = 91 degrees). We finally got a new pool for them and gave it a whirl. Armed with loads of mosquito repellant and sunscreen, nobody got bit or burned. Success.

eau de I love you
kisu has got to be my favorite new scent that I used to just sample every time I went to my day dream shop kuhl linscomb. I'm not sure how I found it or if I was just aesthetically drawn to the display case but for someone who is not a big wearer of perfumes, I am obsessed with it. Perfumes and I have very fleeting relationships, they always start with all the heady-ness of something great, and then before long I'm giving them the old it's not you, it's me line, then it's in to the menagerie of past olfactory loves that sit in my bathroom cabinet. They are all little memories that I like to sniff once in a while for an instant flash back to days of old. I am sort of the same way with music, I will o.d. on a particular band and then I can't bear to listen to them down the line until an acceptable time has past proportionate to the level that I was obsessed. I'm taking it slow and steady with my new fling.

Tights! Tights! Tights! (and leggings)
My legs, they have not seen the light of day for probably the better part of my life. If you can imagine a blinding translucence with a handful of bruises, then you can imagine my situation. One bruise-less day I hope to wear shorts or a skirt to display some leg that I can stand for! Till then I will wear my shorts with leggings or tights, even though it is 112 degrees out. and I will continue to wear sweaters to shield the top part of me from being unevenly sunkissed. If there is anything I hate more than anything, that thing would be noticeable tan lines (or in my case - burn lines). Bring it on you scummy heat index, you can't make me take it off!
